NEW RENAULT KANGOO EXPRESS MAXI AND NEW RENAULT TRAFIC: RENAULT'S LIGHT COMMERCIAL FAMILY GETS BIGGER AND BETTER
Following the recent launch of New Renault Master, Renault is stepping up its product offensive with the introduction of two further new models: New Renault Kangoo Express Maxi and New Renault Trafic.
The launch of New Kangoo Express Maxi sees Renault become the market's only manufacturer to cover the complete spectrum of business user needs by offering the same compact van in a choice of three different sizes. This new version is almost 39cm longer than Kangoo Express and boasts an additional cubic metre of load volume.
New Renault Trafic is more comfortable and more economical than ever. The flagship passenger-carrying model, the limited-series 'Black Edition', radiates the new design values of New Trafic with a top-of-the-range executive look.
Renault has been the number-one brand in the European light commercial vehicle market for 12 years on the trot, with a market share of 14.8 per cent in 2009.
The Carminat TomTom® navigation system (version 1.1) was first introduced on the Renault Kangoo in January 2010. It is now being made available across the complete Renault light commercial vehicle range and will enable business users to optimize their route planning and thus cut their fuel bills.
NEW RENAULT KANGOO EXPRESS MAXI: THE RENAULT COMPACT VAN RANGE GETS BIGGER
From the moment it was launched, the second-generation Renault Kangoo Express was a big hit. In 2009, New Renault Kangoo Express came top of its segment in Europe with a 14.5 per cent share of the market.
Responding ever more closely to the requirements of business users, Renault is now launching Kangoo Express Maxi. Alongside Renault Kangoo Express Compact and Renault Kangoo Express, Kangoo Express Maxi completes the Renault compact van range.
Extended by almost 39cm, the new model is available as either a two-seater or a five-seater. It offers a useful load volume of up to 4.6m and a maximum load length at floor level of 2.9 metres. Renault Kangoo Express Maxi features an even more modular interior, as well as a choice of fuel-efficient powertrains.
Bigger van, same high standard of roadholding
With an overall length of 4.60 metres, Renault Kangoo Express Maxi is almost 39 cm (384mm) longer than Renault Kangoo Express. All of this extra length is contained within the 3.1 metre wheelbase, giving Renault Kangoo Express Maxi excellent road manners.
Maximum load length increases by the same 39cm, boosting it to 2.9 metres. Renault Kangoo Express Maxi boasts the best interior loadspace measurements in the big volume compact van segment, yet at the same time offering the exterior size and easy manoeuvrability of an MPV. Renault Kangoo Express Maxi does not have a raised roof, so its overall height is just 1.82 metres, making it compact enough to use city-centre car parks.
Boasting an extra cubic metre of load volume over and above that of Renault Kangoo Express, the new model’s load capacity rises all the way to 4.6m , for a payload of 800kg. In terms of towing capacity it can handle a braked trailer weight of 1.05 tonnes.
Part of the professional toolkit and even more flexible
Aimed principally at business users seeking maximum load volume and flexibility within a compact footprint, Kangoo Express Maxi is available with either two or five seats. In certain markets the five-seater model will be available in “Cabine Approfondie” form.
Each of these versions offers unprecedented flexibility to adapt to every type of need:
The two-seater version offers a maximum load volume of 4.6m and a payload of 800kg. It may be equipped with a folding passenger seat, allowing the maximum load length at floor level to be extended from 2.1 metres to 2.9 metres (with seat in folded position). Compared with Renault Kangoo Express, these are increases of almost 39cm and 1m.
Renault Kangoo Express Maxi “Cabine Approfondie” is a five-seater offering a maximum load length at floor level of 1.43 metres (2.05 metres with the rear benchseat folded). It features an innovative folding rear seat linked to a wire mesh bulkhead, which can be folded in a single, easy movement. In this new and unique configuration, Kangoo Maxi has a maximum load volume of 3.6m and a payload of 740kg.
The five-seater Renault Kangoo Express Maxi Crew Van has a maximum load length at floor level of 1.33 metres (2.2 metres with the rear benchseat folded) and a payload of 740kg. It is highly flexible and can be configured in four different permutations thanks to its 60/40-split folding rear seat. This arrangement allows the load volume to be adjusted depending on the number of passengers on board. Depending on the regulations of the destination market, it is fitted with either a cargo securing net or a fixed wire mesh bulkhead.
All versions of Renault Kangoo Express Maxi are fitted as standard with a sliding door on the right hand side to enable easy access to the load space. A sliding door for the left hand side is available as an option.
A unique and economical range of compact vans
Renault Kangoo Express Maxi is a business tool that majors on economy, with a range of low-consumption diesel engines boasting CO2 emissions among the lowest on the market. The 1.5 dCi 85 powerplant returns average combined cycle fuel consumption of 5.3 litres/100km, and less than 6 litres/100km on the urban cycle. This engine is available for both the two- and five-seater versions and emits 140g of CO2 per kilometre.
As with the entire Renault light commercial vehicle line-up, Kangoo Express Maxi can be equipped with the Carminat TomTom® navigation system allowing business itineraries to be optimized and unnecessary mileage to be avoided (for further information, see the Carminat TomTom® press release dated February 8, 2010).
With the launch of this new addition to its light commercial vehicle family, Renault can now boast a comprehensive and well-structured range of compact vans available in three different lengths.
Launching from end of April 2010, New Renault Kangoo Express Maxi is assembled at the MCA Maubeuge plant, in France, and will give Renault a highly competitive presence in the growing segment for big volume compact vans.
The 2010 Geneva International Motor Show will be the world debut of the European specification Honda CR-Z hybrid coupe. The European version features a 2+2 seating layout and an eight LED daytime running light accent under each of the headlamps. CR-Z customers will be able to enjoy the first car to combine a hybrid system with a 6-speed manual gearbox. By combining an efficient 1.5-litre petrol engine with Honda's unique IMA parallel hybrid system, the CR-Z can offer lower emissions of all exhaust gasses, while offering an entertaining and engaging driving experience. The flexibility of the IMA parallel hybrid system means that it can be used with a manual gearbox, allowing drivers to exploit the broad spread of torque, while maintaining excellent fuel economy of just 5.0 l/100km.
To maximise driver choice and enhance the day to day drivability of the car, the CR-Z has been fitted with a 3-Mode Drive System. This unique feature allows the driver to choose between three driving modes, which alter the responses of the throttle, steering, idle stop timing, climate control and the level of assistance provided by the IMA system. In developing this new facility, Honda allows the driver to adapt the car's settings to enjoy their favourite road, maximise economy, or strike a balance between the two.
Sport buttons have become commonplace usually offering a sharper throttle response, but Honda's 3-Mode Drive System is different. The new system alters the behaviour of the hybrid drivetrain and the power steering assistance as well as the throttle mapping between the three modes.
When the CR-Z driver is away from the town or city and wanting to enjoy their drive more, they can put the car into SPORT mode. This sharpens the throttle response, changes the behaviour of the IMA hybrid system to provide more electric motor assistance, and increases the weight of the electric power steering.
Honda recognises that even the most enthusiastic driver may regularly experience heavy traffic, where maximising fuel economy is more desirable than the perfect line through a corner. In these situations ECON mode can be selected, which prioritises fuel economy in the operation of the drive by wire throttle, ECU, air conditioning and the hybrid system. For those times when spirited driving is not possible or desirable, the Eco Assist function, in conjunction with the ECON mode, allows the driver to enjoy beating their best economy score on the way to work, or in heavy traffic.
At all other times the car can be run in NORM mode, which provides a balance between performance, economy and emissions and suits most driving situations.
The ambient lighting of the speedometer is used in the same way as in the Insight to guide the driver in driving more economically and ecologically. In addition to the Eco Assist function, the CR-Z's meter lighting is linked to the 3-mode drive system. In NORM mode the speedometer is illuminated blue, with green illumination when the car is being driven in an economical manner. In ECON mode it is also blue (glowing green when driven economically) and it has a green eco flower lit alongside. When the speedometer is illuminated in a red ambient light, this indicates the CR-Z is in SPORT mode.
The CR-Z will go on sale across Europe in the middle of 2010 and prices will be announced at the Geneva motor show.
Honda CR-V The new CR-V will appear at Geneva for the first time, with revised exterior and interior styling across the range. Diesel versions are fitted with the latest 150 PS i-DTEC engine, which is now available with an automatic gearbox. All grades of CR-V have benefitted from a suite of noise reduction measures and minor suspension revisions to further improve refinement.
Honda Range Honda's Geneva motor show stand will also feature the FCX Clarity fuel cell electric vehicle plus the current range of Jazz, Insight, Civic, Civic Hybrid and Accord models. More Photos
World Debut in Geneva: New Top Model in the 911 Series
Stuttgart. The engineers at Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, have developed a new top-of-the-range sports car for the customer who will only settle for the very best in terms of power, performance and driving dynamics: the 911 Turbo S. The heart of this most exclusive high-performance athlete is of course a six-cylinder boxer boosted by two exhaust gas turbochargers with variable turbine geometry, with an increase in power over the 911 Turbo by 30 to 530 bhp (390 kW). Maximum torque is a most impressive 700 Newton-metres (516 lb-ft). At the same time this new top model comes as standard with all high-tech components available only as options on the "regular" 911 Turbo.
Despite its significant increase in power and dynamic performance, the new 911 Turbo S, at 11.4 litres/100 kilometres (equal to 24.8 mpg imp), does not consume any more fuel than the Porsche 911 Turbo, making it by far the most efficient sports car in its performance class.
The 911 Turbo S comes exclusively with seven-speed Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) (Porsche's Double-Clutch Gearbox) conveying drive power to Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive. Driving safety optimised to an even higher standard is ensured by Dynamic Engine Mounts and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) including a mechanical differential lock on the rear axle. In conjunction with Launch Control on the Sport Chrono Package Turbo likewise featured as standard, 911 Turbo S accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and reaches 200 km/h in 10.8 seconds
Top speed is 315 km/h or 195 mph. Extra-light and fading-resistant Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) provide the same outstanding performance in terms of stopping power and controlled application of the brakes.
The supreme level of standard equipment including Dynamic Bending Lights, 19-inch wheels in RS Spyder design with central locking, a three-spoke sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles, adaptive sports seats, cruise control, a CD/DVD changer and exclusive twin-tone leather upholstery in Black/Crema or Black/Titanium Blue additionally underlines the outstanding class and calibre of this first Turbo S in five years.
The new Porsche 911 Turbo S will be at the dealership as both a Coupé and Cabriolet as of May 2010. The German market price of the Turbo S Coupé is Euro 173,241 including 19 per cent value-added tax and local equipment in the market (the Euro base price is Euro 145,400). The Cabriolet retails in the German market at Euro 184.546, again including 19 per cent VAT and local equipment/specifications (base price Euro 154,900).

Like most of the big players in the automotive industry that had to retract, right-size and close facilities across the country, electric vehicle startup Fisker Automotive has also had to bite the bullet and consolidate some of its operations. A little over a year after establishing its 34,000 square foot engineering and development center in Pontiac, Michigan, Fisker has announced that it will close the facility and transfer its 30 staff to its headquarters located in Irvine, California.
Fisker isn’t completely abandoning the state of Michigan as the company fully intends on maintaining its relationship with local suppliers.
The move is scheduled to take place on March 1 at which point Fisker’s headquarters will house all design, engineering, sales, marketing, and administrative operations. At the same time Fisker also plans to increase the number of new hires, though no numbers have been revealed.
According to the company, the consolidation is to "accelerate development of its next-generation plug-in hybrids".
The company’s first model, the upcoming Karma plug-in hybrid luxury sedan, will be built by independent vehicle manufacturer Valmet in Finland but its next model, codenamed Project NINA, will be built at a former GM plant in Delaware, which Fisker secured the rights to thanks to a $528 million loan from the U.S. Department of Energy. Japanese manufacturers, residents of the BLAND unit in the trauma ward that is the modern auto industry (for the most part), put out some huge and extremely popular sports cars in the 90's. Toyota had the twin-turbo Supra; Mitsubishi had the 3000GT VR-4; Mazda had the twin-turbo RX-7 and Nissan had the twin-turbo 300ZX and Skyline GT-Rs. And Honda? Well, they tried to pick a fight with Ferrari with their naturally-aspirated V6-powered NSX, but as for the common man? That's where the SSM concept stepped in, foreshadowing the S2000 roadster.
The Mercedes-Benz Museum is the only museum in the world that can document in a single continuous timeline over 120 years of auto industry history from its very beginnings to the present day. On nine levels and covering a floor space of 16,500 square metres, the museum presents 160 vehicles and over 1,500 exhibits. As a place of innovation, it also demonstrates that history can point the way ahead.
The exhibition not only presents the fascinating history of the Mercedes-Benz brand, it also affords illuminating insights into the future. This dual function is also reflected in the architecture of the Mercedes-Benz Museum, designed by the UNStudio of Dutch architects van Berkel and Bos, Amsterdam.
The building's interior is inspired by the double helix structure of the DNA spiral that carries the human genome. This in turn illustrates the Mercedes-Benz brand's philosophy of originality – to continuously create radically new products to advance the cause of human mobility.
During a two-hour tour of the exhibition, visitors experience a unique journey through automotive history. Transported by lift to the uppermost level of the museum, the visitor arrives back in the year 1886, where two museum tours gradually spiral their way down through the extensive collection and back to the museum exit.
The first of the tours consists of seven Legend rooms which narrate the chronological history of the brand. The second tour groups the wealth of vehicles on display into five separate Collection rooms, which thematically document the breadth and diversity of the brand portfolio and collection.
The visitor can switch from one tour to the other at any time. Both tours finish at the banked curve entitled Silver Arrows – Races & Records. The exhibition is rounded off by the Fascination of Technology display, which offers a glimpse into day-to-day work at Mercedes-Benz and also presents topics concerning the future of the automobile.
