Baby Ferrari caught again

1 评论

Everyone knows that Ferrari is hatching a baby the size of some popular German roadsters. What we don’t know yet, is whether Dino, F149 or California GT will be on the name badge. The pictures shown are the newest on the block, revealing the car for the first time without its notorious hunchback that’s been a trademark ever since we first spied this Ferrari testing.

Ferrari is not isolated from the rest of the world, and as such they are working on ways to impress the green cops. One of these is of course the turbo which is rumoured to be on its way back to Formula One where Ferrari tests a lot of their future on-road technology. Engine upfront, two doors, driven by the rear wheels. We sincerely hope that underneath what is probably one of the ugliest ducklin camouflage jobs out there, is a princely swan.

Ford Europe launches new top shelf Mondeo - the Titanium X Sport

0 评论

Ford is going sportier with the new Mondeo by adding the Titanium X Sport versions on the existing range. Titanium X Sport brings with it several changes to the Mondeo, changes like a new 2.2-litre TDCi engine which puts out 35PS more than its 2.0-litre sibling. That accelerates to 62 mph from nothing in 8.4 seconds with a top end of 139 mph. Environment is priority of course so the engine produces only 165 g/km in emissions as well as an average fuel consumption figure of 45.6 mpg. The petrol car stays with its 2.5-litre turbo engine.

Taking care of the looks department are 18-inch alloys, twin chromed exhaust pipes, side skirts, piano black inlays, leather/alcantara seats and red stitching detail. It all may sound a little 1970s Afro but it really works. Titanium X Sport also gets itself an advanced Bluetooth connection, alloy pedals, sports suspension and bi-xenon lights. The in-dash 6-CD Sony changer is a real party-starter. Good thing too because it comes standard with Titanium X Sport.

Pricing for the cars start from £23,355 (5 door) and £26,605 (estate) on the road for United Kingdom.

Corvette ZR1 Annual Production Limited to 2000

0 评论

In a recent chat on GMnext.com, Corvette ZR1 chief engineer Tadge Juechter revealed what many consumers have already been dreading – annual production of the ZR1 will be limited to just 2000 units. But this must be like sweet music in the ears of the dealers who will surely be celebrating. Even though we expect the price of the ZR1 to stand at around $100,000, the limited production will enable the dealers to charge a good premium on top of that, so don't be surprised to find it turn up on Ebay for twice the recommended retail price.

Hard facts about the ZR1's fuel economy is yet to be reported but Juechter did add "the ZR1 will be the most fuel-efficient 600-hp car you can buy in the world." Although the fuel economy “will be somewhat less than the Z06, and we expect a gas guzzler tax.”

A dying question the world still wants to know about the ZR1 - How fast can it go? Juenchter was quizzed on whether the ZR1 could regain the World Speed Endurance Record. "As you probably saw, we announced the top speed as 205 mph. The ZR1 has also been extremely durable in our testing, so the car certainly has the potential to take the World Speed Endurance Record. However, we are currently focused on a perfect launch and getting the ZR1 into production. We will talk about record attempts later." Juenchter was recently quoted as saying "the ZR1will be able to take the production-car track record at any racetrack," meaning the GT-R ring run of 7 minutes 29 seconds could well be under threat.

Secrets for GT-R Record Ring Run Revealed

0 评论

Last week Nissan announced the GT-R lapped the Nurburgring in an astounding 7 minues 29 seconds knocking a full 9 seconds of its previous record. We were led to believe the GT-R used was completely unmodified, but even though the GT-R has already been launched over in Japan, the engineers are still working on upgrades for its launch in Europe and the States.

Chief vehicle engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno said that the US bound GT-R will get a few tweaks including three harder engine mounts and a stiffer transaxle mount resulting in an even finer tuned suspension and powertrain. These details are certainly areas which helped the GT-R achieve a time of 7min 29 sec on the Ring.

The European version will be enhanced further with a slightly revised steering system and recalibrated rear differential although the GT-R team make a decision on this in September. But why enhance the GT-R further when it is already proved itself among the worlds top supercars? 'The GT-R is my son,' Mizuno explained. 'A son grows up and it's my duty as father to keep improving it.'
