The wait is finally over, and we have official photos and information about the updated Subaru Impreza WRX STI. Subaru's latest version of their flagship rally car debuts at the Tokyo Motor Show on October 24th just before noon, Tokyo time.

With a new one-piece nose, the five-door STI looks a little less boring than the current model. This new version has more stylized front and side panels, giving it a more streamlined appearance when compared to STI already in production. This new STI also has a less pronounced hood scoop that is more integrated with the rest of the car. The front and rear overhangs have also been shortened on this longer, wider STI. Overall, the five-door has a less boxy look to it compared to previous versions.

Also added to the new WRX STI is a new, horizontally-opposed 2.0 liter engine. This four-cylinder engine is still outfitted with a turbo-charger, and is combined with the company's Subaru Intelligent Drive, or SI-DRIVE for short. When paired together, the company claims the car has the high performance its customers demand, as well as "excellent handling under extreme [and] normal driving conditions."

Subaru mated the engine to a six-speed manual transmission with multi-mode Driver's Control Center Differential (DCCD) and Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC). These two technologies are added to help the driver get better traction control and greater stability.

Sitting on 18-inch wheels, the WRX STI rides with a reverse-type strut suspension in the front, and a double wishbone suspension in the rear. The company also claims the Subaru Impreza WRX STI has a new chassis to improve "road-hugging capability," while still giving the driver "exhilaration and confidence" when taking the car out on the streets.

The new Subaru Impreza WRX STI will be formally introduced to the world on October 24th at 11:50am Tokyo time, during the 40th Annual Tokyo Motor Show.

Concept

The new WRX STI was developed with the eternal theme and essence of the driver’s car, the “total driving control,” that the preceding WRX STI models also pursued. This AWD sports model

gives maximum driving pleasure through its combination of power, performance, handling and ride capabilities thanks to engineering exclusively designed for the WRX STI and its five-door package. It also balances excellent safety and environmental aspects at a high level.

Styling

Using a new five-door body style developed from the Impreza model, the new Impreza WRX STI displays a powerful design language that speaks directly to its performance credentials, integrating function and beauty. Adopting shortened front and rear overhangs, a longer wheelbase and widened body flares, the Impreza WRX STI clearly embodies driving performance in dynamic exterior design that delivers as overwhelming presence and beauty.

Performance

The new Horizontally-Opposed 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo charged engine was developed exclusively for the new WRX STI. By further improving the basic performance of the engine, and

mating it to SI-DRIVE (SUBARU Intelligent Drive), the WRX STI offers not only outright performance as might be expected, but also delivers excellent handling under extreme as well as normal driving conditions.

Featuring Subaru’s unique Symmetrical AWD and specially developed in-house 6-speed manual transmission as its base technologies, multi mode DCCD* and VDC**, which control traction and stability more precisely, have also been added to WRX STI. To complete its performance credentials, the evolved chassis by “Subaru Dynamic Chassis Control Concept” has dramatically

improved road-hugging capability and will provide exhilaration and confidence in every driving situation.
